Support Our Programs

Generous support from alumni and friends significantly enhances the quality of the educational experience we offer our students. Current fundraising goals include:

1) A five-year campaign to raise $1.5 million to establish an endowed chair of creative writing. This campaign is part of an ongoing strategic initiative to strengthen our creative writing program, an initiative that recently resulted in the hiring of prizewinning poet B. H. Fairchild. Although some of our creative writing majors go on to become professional writers and/or writing teachers, most use their well honed writing skills as the foundation for successful careers in business or the professions. The establishment of an endowed chair and a strengthened reputation for our department will enhance both the quality of the education students receive and their marketability after graduation.

2) Permanently endowing the Scott Simpkins Memorial Scholarship. A generous gift of $10,000 from the Simpkins family has allowed us to create an annual $500 award that will last for at least twenty years. Additional contributions will allow us to extend the life of the scholarship or permanently endow it (if we reach a total of $25,000).

3) Building the endowment for the Pearla Irene Marquez Memorial Scholarship. Additional donations to this fund will allow us to make larger awards to deserving students.
