About

The Graduate Students in English Association at the University of North Texas is an organization dedicated to promoting the success of all graduate students in English at the University of North Texas. Our goal is to foster a healthy graduate student body through community, professionalization, and support.

GSEA provides a community for graduate students through diverse social activities and unique events. GSEA is a great place for new graduate students to make connections and returning graduate students to maintain community.

Professionalization is an important part of formation for graduate students. GSEA offers strategic professionalization through afternoon seminars and lectures with experienced faculty and doctoral candidates. We also offer numerous numerous events sessions where students can get together and share ideas, writing, and teaching skills. Whether you need resume advice or help finding funding for research and travel, GSEA is here to help.

Graduate Students Spotlight Series

The Graduate Student Spotlight Series (GSSS) showcases the research English graduate students are conducting at UNT for their dissertations, at conferences or for their courses.

Interested in sharing your work at a GSSS event?

Three ways to be in the Spotlight:
Individual Presentations
The individual presenter will have a ‘job talk’ or keynote-style presentation on a topic of their choosing for approximately 45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
Two Presenters
The two presenters’ conference-style presentations have a connecting theme. Each presenter has approximately 20 minutes, followed by 20 minutes of Q&A.
Panel or Round Table
Panel or round tables of 3-5 speakers, featuring conference-style papers that share a connective theme. Each presentation is 8-15 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.

Apply to share your research:

Determine your presentation style and title, write a brief description, provide keywords, and rank the ideal month for the presentation. If you want to share the spotlight each presenter needs to fill out the form. If you don't have specific people in mind, you can still express interest in a shared spotlight, and we can try to match you with others who have similar interests.

GSSS Interset Form

English Department Book Club

The GSEA organizes a department-wide book club to foster community and conversation across all levels of the English department—from undergraduates to tenured faculty. Each semester, we select a text that invites lively discussion, diverse perspectives, and shared engagement with literature beyond the classroom.

Reach out to officers for details on this semester's book!

GSEA Townhalls

The GSEA officers host regular town halls to provide their fellow graduate students with an open forum to share concerns, ask questions, and exchange ideas. These meetings create a space for transparent communication between students of all cohorts ensuring that the graduate student community’s voices are heard and represented by GSEA.

Reach out to officers for information about the upcoming town hall!
