Dr. Jeff Doty specializes in early modern literature. His book Shakespeare, Popularity and the Public Sphere (Cambridge UP, 2016) investigates the stirrings of democratic culture in the theater. He has also published two essays on popular politics in Shakespeare's plays. His work appears in Shakespeare Quarterly, English Literary Renaissance, Literature Compass, and the essay collection Shakespeare and the Politics of Commoners (Oxford UP, 2017). Dr. Doty teaches courses on Shakespeare, seventeenth-century lyric poetry, and Milton. Before joining the faculty at UNT, he taught for seven years at West Texas A&M University.
