Maximizing your Degree in the Writing/Research Marketplace Dr. Hicks received her Ph.D. in African American Studies from UNT in 2017 and has used her degree to advance her career as a writer-researcher for nonprofits and related groups in the Metroplex. She has a terrific story to tell about the value of an English major, and a Ph.D. in English, in her landing an excellent full-time job.
